Lynch Selected 2006 Golden Compass Honoree

September 1, 2005 The Seafarers House announced last month they have selected John Lynch, former President of Seaboard Marine, to receive the 2006 International Golden Compass Award.

Located in Port Everglades, the Seafarers House has become the worlds busiest non-profit provider of crew welfare services. The Seafarers House - also known as Casa del Marino is a multi-faith ministry that provides a comfortable yet vibrant setting where crew members can gather and socialize. With over 85 phones and dozens of computers with internet connections, the goal of the Seafarers House is not only to allow crewmen to reach home but also to feel at home.

Lynchs achievements will be recognized in a gala celebration in Fort Lauderdale on April 29, 2006. One of the premier formal events in the maritime community, the black tie annual dinner has typically raised over $150,000 each year to benefit the Seafarers House. It will be hosted by Kristi Krueger, news anchor for Channel 10, the ABC affiliate in Miami.

Lynch said, Having served so many years on the sea early in my career, I know first hand how meaningful a seamans center can be to crew member. The Seafarers House is a world renowned model for successfully improving the welfare of the seafarer. Im delighted and honored to have been chosen.

Lynch has been with Seaboard Marine for nearly 18 years. Although stepping down as President earlier this year, Lynch remains active in strategic decisions, particularly involving vessel procurement and planning.

He joins distinguished individuals such as Nicola Arena (MSC); Gerhard Kurz (Seabulk); Tom Crowley, Jr.(Crowley Maritime); and Kirk Lanterman (Holland America) who have recently received the prestigious International Golden Compass Award.
