Allen Family Foods Inc

Allen's Hatchery was founded in 1919 by Charles C. (Clarence) and Nellie G. Allen who began by incubating about 6,000 chicks per week and hatching them using a coal-oil-fired incubator after which they sold the chicks to local farmers for egg production. From these modest beginnings, Allen Family Foods Inc. has grown from a small, family-owned hatchery near Seaford, Delaware to becoming an industry leader and global exporter of quality poultry products.

Headquartered at the site of the Allen homestead in Seaford, the company now employs over 3,000 people at several locations in Delaware, Maryland and North Carolina.   Currently Allen Family Foods is processing about 2.5 million birds per week and packing about 10 million pounds of finished products per week; which equates to more than 500 million pounds of poultry products per year. In 1996 export operations reached a peak of an incredible 100 million pounds of products per year.

In 1998 Allen's became the first major poultry producer on the Delmarva Peninsula to have signed a partnership agreement with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), whereby they agreed to work with the INS to encourage continued compliance and support of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Their Quality Assurance (QA) staff ensures safety of food handling, including regular checks on sanitation procedures, product performance and plant cleanliness. The team at Allen’s takes pride in all of its facilities, keeping them as clean and safe as possible while they provide excellent product quality and a safe work environment for all associates.  The Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system is used at every level of operation to analyze possible production systems for food safety issues and if at any time, there is a potential problem area, it can be identified early and corrected.

All of Allen's operations are sophisticated and complex; from breeding/hatching, feed mill and grow out operations to advanced processing plants as well as the quality assurance laboratory. The company operates in three states and transports its products throughout North America and remarkably has export customers around the world. With cutting edge technology at their disposal and dedicated work force, Allen associates egg on their customers to good health!
