Thelen Sand & Gravel Inc was founded back in 1947 for mining sand and gravel. Thelen owns over 2,600 acres in Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois, and employs over 200 people. They have different divisions such as sand & gravel mining, sand & gravel delivery, ready, excavation, farming, real estate development.
Thelen land is devoted to the mining of sand and gravel for use in everything from the filling of children's sandboxes to 100,000-ton loads for applications in asphalt road bases, housing developments, and construction sites. Thelen Sand & Gravel has been in aggregate production when the main pit was purchased. This site contains a voluminous vein of gravel built up over centuries of glacial deposits that runs 50 to 130 layers thick.
Thelen ready mix has been providing quality concrete products for contractors and homeowners in Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. The fleet includes a multitude of traditional rear discharge and front discharge mixer that can handle delivery from the largest commercial jobs to the individual homeowner. The excavating & underground mining division has seen skyrocketing growth and has become a driving force of the corporation. Through work done by the full-service excavating operation; an area of land can be transformed into a thriving subdivision without the hassles usually associated with development. This division will handle any type of work from beginning to end, both simplifying the process and ensuring the highest quality of work.
Thelen Sand & Gravel offers a variety of aggregates, sand, decorative stones, boulders, recycled and specialty products to serve most any need. The Company tests their materials to maintain the strictest quality control and meet the various ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and State DOT specifications. In addition, Thelen Sand & Gravel can make special blends and gradations for customer building and construction needs.
Thelens aggregate delivery fleet includes various semi dumps and six-wheelers with aluminum and steel trailers, barn door, short gates and coal chutes. Thelen also can deliver aggregate in one of their stone slingers. The stone slinger incorporates a conveyer for direct placement of material.
