Your fuel/water separator is your best line of defense against water and sediment in your fuel making it to your injection system. Make sure to maintain the separator as recommended, and drain is and replace filters regularly. Be sure to buy fuel from an outlet you know to be reputable, that pumps sediment and water out of their tanks.

Make sure to wipe the fuel tank and cap down regularly with a rag. And remember to refuel at the end of the day, especially in cold weather, to prevent condensation. Also be sure to remove the cap and check inside of your tank regularly for any signs of sediment or water. If your manufacturer recommends draining your tank that should be preformed regularly as well.

When draining makes sure to use a device that can hold several gallons and is fuel safe. If you drain when your tank is almost empty this can help with having to sit through less fuel. Remove the plug or open the valve and allow you fuel to continue draining until it runs clear. Then close the valve or replace the plug and properly dispose of the contaminated fuel.

Once every six months you should check the tank mountings and tighten any loose bolts. Inspect for signs of damage or leaking and make repairs if necessary. Be sure you hoses and lines aren't chafing or coming into contact with hot eaxhaust or shafts. Make sure any ties are maintained and replaced if worn. If the insulation is damaged be sure to make proper repairs.
